Efficient, Flexible, and Precise

The fully automated wheel assembly line from 3defacto takes efficiency and flexibility to a whole new level. Operators place tires and rims on the infeed conveyors, and the system automatically detects the wheel size and manages the entire assembly process. Wheel sizes from 15 to 58 inches are mounted without the need for retooling and inflated with precision using a inflation system — with a tolerance of ± 0.1 bar at up to 9 bar fill pressure.
Our production lines require approximately 1,000 m² of installation and operating space for a fully equipped system. Energy consumption is minimized through integrated recuperation systems (e.g., in the inflation station) and energy-efficient drive technology.

Automation That Inspires

The system combines aatate-of-the-art laser measurement, automatic layer correction, and a universally adjustable hold-down mechanism to ensure the highest process precision. Automated control enables continuous, flexible production without manual setup. Depending on wheel size and matching method, cycle times range from 30–80 seconds per wheel. Operation is simple and intuitive.

Tire Folding Table

The tire folding table is used for manual tire placement. Tires are rolled up a ramp onto the tipping mechanism and automatically transferred into the assembly process. Tires from 15 to 58 inches can be placed taking into account the rotation direction and match point. The table tilts the tire horizontally and transfers it to the conveyor system. Difficult-to-handle tires can be placed on a separate loading area using a forklift.

Rim Tilt Table

The rim tilt table allows manual loading of rims (15–58 inches) into the system with attention to valve hole alignment and match point. The folding mechanism tilts the rim horizontally while a pneumatic shift prevents damage. An integrated roller conveyor handles the transfer. All contact surfaces in contact are equipped with a low-wear plastic coating.

Conveyor System

The conveyor system consists of powered roller conveyors, matched to the respective wheel sizes and weights. High-performance, frequency-controlled three-phase motors ensure precise and smooth running. The robust frame structure guarantees low vibration and high process reliability.

Tire Lubrication Station

This station applies a fast-drying, biodegradable lubricant to the tire sidewalls — ideal for sensitive IF and VF tractor tires. A gripper lifts the tire while pneumatically controlled spray nozzles evenly coat the flanks during rotation. This wear-free technology replaces traditional brush systems. The lubricant is dispensed via a pump from an IBC or drum, with demand-based control.

Rim Measurement Station

This station is equipped with a turntable and laser measurement systems. It detects the inner rim flange and takes measurements like low spot, high spot, match point, and its angle relative to the valve hole — contact-free within a 360° rotation.

Assembly Station

Here, the rim gripper, tire gripper, clamping station, hold-down mechanism, and assembly arm work in coordination. The rim is clamped and centered, the tire positioned into the drop center, and the top bead is mounted through synchronized motion. Cameras detect match points, and the rim is aligned automatically. The transfer to the inflation table occurs via vertical lift.

Inflation Station

The patented inflation bell with up to eight rings automatically selects the correct diameter. The top tire bead is pressed down while air flows evenly. Intelligent control ensures precise fill pressures within ± 0.1 bar. Perfect bead seating eliminates the need for post-adjustment.

Wheel Measurement Station

This station inspects the inflated wheel using multiple laser sensors. It detects radial runout, tire profiles, and optionally free sidewall areas for future markings — all contact-free in one rotation. Based on results, sorting occurs via conveyor or a quality control station.

Stacking Crane

The stacking crane securely grips the fully assembled wheel at its outer diameter. It can rotate and precisely position the wheel as needed. Thanks to its flexible control system, it ensures reliable handling – even with changing wheel sizes and varying placement situations.

Palletizing

The automatic palletizing system handles the precise and direction-oriented placement of the wheels. The discharge follows a defined packing pattern, ensuring that the mounted wheels are ready for shipping, storage, or further processing.
